Florentino Perez reveals reason Madrid backed off in the Mbappé deal while admitting to future plans for the French superstar

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez has revealed the influence of the PSG offer that made Real Madrid end their pursuit of Kylian Mbappé this summer.

It was thought that the 23-year-old is Madrid bound after turning down new contract offer from PSG last summer amidst Real Madrid’s interest in luring him to the Bernabéu.

However, after so much anticipation this summer, Mbappé decided to stay in Paris following a ridiculous offer tabled by Les Parisien and the pressure on the player.

Florentino Perez said in his latest interview: “Mbappé did not betray anyone. His dream was to join Madrid, he always bought our shirts, but the situation changed because of political and economical pressure.”

“Mbappé's Mom also wanted him to come to Madrid, because it's her son's dream. She was sad that the move did not materialize.”

“We didn't sign a pre-contract with Mbappé because of PSG, we had to inform them of that and we didn't want that because it would add more pressure on him.”

Florentino Perez continued: “I think they confused him. I believed him and his dream, but sometimes dreams don't come true. He was pressured by two different countries and they managed to confuse him.”

“It's not easy to have the president of your country, the mayor of your city call you, then go to Qatar and they offer you insane things, he changed his mind and at the end, we said this isn't the Mbappé we wanted. He changed his dream.”

“Emmanuel Macron called Mbappé, it makes no sense. PSG offered him to be the leader of the project, that changed everything. I did not see the same Mbappé that we wanted because no player will ever be above Real Madrid.”

“When I saw Mbappé's problems with the French Federation about his image rights, I was shocked. I thought this is not my Mbappé.”

“You [Mbappé] go to Qatar and they offer you insane things, then it’s difficult not to change your mind. Mbappé's responsability in PSG's new project is crazy, if that's what he wants, then good luck.”

When asked if he has given up hopes of signing Mbappé in the future, Perez answered: “I never said it's over, in three years things can change, all I said is this isn't my Mbappé, but that can change.”

“Mbappé chose money? Not just that, it's the politics. He panicked. Can you imagine the King of Spain calling a player?” he concluded.
