Who is Wisdom Obioma Junior ? The Nigerian sensation destined for stardom

It is only a matter of time for young sensation Wisdom Obioma Sunday, who has played his way into becoming one of the next biggest names to ensue in a world of talented football players in Nigeria.

Born on the 12th of June, 2002, the highly rated young playmaker started playing football at a very young age, representing Lagos based clubs in Nigeria. Born and bred in Lagos, the 19year old grew in fame at a very young age, all for his abilities with the round leather at his feet.

He had represented more than a couple of teams in Lagos in the likes of Young Gunners FC, Young Stars FC, All Stars FC and Pepsi Football Academy between 2014 and 2018 before moving to Abeokuta, Ogun State in 2018 to continue his education at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeouta, Ogun state, Nigeria.

In his first year in the University, Weezy was selected to be a part of the University’s main team as he stood out in the competitions for new students, showing that he is class above the others.

He went on to represent the University at different levels and tournaments, with his eye-catching displays catch the attention of coaches of different football teams and he 2019, he was signed up by Chummie FC, where continues his development until date.

In late 2021, between September and October, he was invited for a trial at Lead City Football Academy, Ibadan in Oyo state Nigeria, one of the biggest Academies in the country. He emerged as one of the few selected players, got certifiied and as well presented a player profile assessment.

Strengths and Style of Play

The head of the Directorate of Sports at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeouta, Lawrence Odumbo, who is a professional football coach described Weezy to be “very direct, always looked forward, had a lovely touch, very clever in possession. He is always looking to make those run ins behind the defenders”.

Wisdom Obioma earned a good reputation while representing the University. Owing to his technique and skills, he can be deployed in multiple positions in the third half of the pitch with his left foot no limitation to the various of positions he could be deployed.

Primarily, he plays as an Attacking Midfielder, pulling the strings in the middle of the park and dictating the tempo of the game to devastating effect for the opposition. He loves to attract the attention of the defenders, in other to create openings for his teammates in attack.

He has been likened to the likes of Lionel Messi and Mesut Özil for his playmaking skills. A left-footer by nature, Weezy can also play on either side of the wings but more deadly when he plays on the right, cutting in and dribbling his way to a clear path on goal.

When playing on the left, his precision with deliveries into the opposition area is joy for teammates in the box. For a player who loves taking on the opposition, Weezy is always a threat in the final third moreso never shy of having a go at goal once the opportunities present themselves.

On set-piece duties, Weezy is an artist. He has a good reputation for scoring free-kick, finding the back of the net on several occasions while representing his side in competitions.

Achievements

Despite starting from the grassroot, Weezy is well decorated with both individuals and collective honours. He enjoyed success at the young category of the Gala Cup Competitions with three different teams, Young Gunners FC, Young Stars FC and all Stars FC.

Represented the Tabernacle of David, province 17 team, winning silver and bronze medal in the Redeemed Christian Church of God Province Cup in 2017 and 2018.

Was named the player of the tournament as he led his College of Management Science to the Vice Chancellor Cup in 2019. For his department, Department of Economics, he won three Head Of Department’s Cup (HOD Cup) in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He was also part of the team that won the College of Management Science Student Association Cup in 2021, the year he graduated from the University.

Won the Hostel League with his side and was duly named the best player of the tournament due to his individual brilliance. He has also won the best player in the Department, College and the University on multiple occasions in his four years stay at the Federal University.

Without undermining the impact of Chummie FC, it is this football club’s great scouting and vision that brought about the discovery of this and other talented players. Much credit in the transformation and development of Weezy is accredited to Chummie FC, and the player himself will feel blessed to be a product of the club.

With University education done and now full focus on football, it is just a matter of time before the 19year old gets his dream move and start making the headlines.
