Mikel Arteta gives update on when Aubameyang will return to play for Arsenal

After being stripped of the armband by the club and the followed update that he will not be a part of the squad when they take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Wednesday, the 32year old will now be missing for the second game in a row.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has provided update on the return of Aubameyang to the squad, saying both the club and the ex-captain will need a bit of time to heal.

Speaking in a prematch press conference, Arteta said: “We have the leadership group. In the last game we had Lacazette. We had Granit who was captain as well. It's not the time to make any rash decision."

"We need a bit of time. It needs a bit of time to heal. For now he's not involved in the squad.” he added.

With players expected to be leaving in preparation for the African Cup of Nations before the turn of the year, the cameo at the Goodison Park could be Aubameyang’s last appearance in the Arsenal shirt this year.

In the future however, they could only hope that the decision will not ruin the relationship between the club and the player, and maybe when he returns from the AFCON, everything will be back to normal.

Arsenal take on West Ham United on Wednesday evening knowing a win will see them move into the top four as Manchester United will not be in action due to the postponement of their trip to Brentford as a result of COVID.
