Real Madrid displace Barcelona at the top of La Liga with win over Sociedad

Real Madrid capitalize on Barcelona's goalless draw in Seville with a win over Sociedad at the Anoeta to return to La Liga summit.


Goals from captain Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema was enough for Los Blancos to see off Sociedad and retake control of the league after losing the top spot to Barcelona before the suspension of matches.

Sergio Ramos put Real in from with a 50th minute penalty after Vinicius was tripped in the area and VAR review sees no reason to overturn the referee decision.

Ramos was replaced soon after scoring by Eder Militao due to an injury in the 60th minute after getting caught by Sociedad striker Isak, minutes earlier.

Karim Benzema then doubled the lead in the 70th minute before Mikel Merino scored seven minutes from normal time to spark a nervous ending to the clash but Real held their nerves to see out the match with a win.


Real return to the top of La Liga, leading Barcelona on better head to head while Atletico Madrid pip Sevilla to third after their 1-0 win over Real Valladolid at the Wanda metropolitan.

Barcelona host Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday while Real entertain Mallorca at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Wednesday as the battle Continues for the La Liga title this season.
