Mason Mount Come Of Age To Repay Lampard's Trust And Cement A Place In Chelsea's First Team
Fans called for the head of Frank Lampard last season when he fielded Mason Mount in most of Chelsea games, as the young Englishman becomes the first graduate of the club's academy to make 50 appearances in their first season with the first team.
After successful spells with both Dutch club, Vitesse Arnhem and Championship side, Derby County between 2017 and the end of the 2019 season, Chelsea had to call the midfielder back to the club due to their inability to sign new players because of their transfer ban.
The 21 year old stepped up for The Blues with good performances but the fans wanted something more spectacular, and called for Mount to be less played by boss, Frank Lampard, who was somewhat adamant to the calls.
Frank Lampard never seems to doubt and has always believe in the abilities of the player that worked with him in his days with Championship side Derby County, and before the end of last season, made him set the record for the most appearances by a Chelsea academy graduate in their debut season with the club's first team.
Frank Lampard while addressing the press after he was accused of favouring the midfielder earlier this season, “There are 100 things in his game that impress the managers that he works for. But because he doesn’t have an Instagram reel of those kind of flicks and it’s a different type of football, it’s easy for people to bracket him off.
“Make no mistake, Mason Mount or any player in this squad will not be getting any favouritism when it comes to picking this squad.”
Impressively, Mason Mount has come out good this season that even after Chelsea make Kai Havertz her most expensive signing, he has been no match for Mount who has been everywhere on the pitch for the club thus far.
Mason Mount leads the way for the most key passes (28), chances created (six) and shot creating actions (42) amongst other Chelsea players in the Premier League this season. He is also not far behind in other aspects as his progressive passes (61), goal creating actions (seven), tackles plus interceptions (46) and successful pressures (66) all ranked second compared to all other players in the Chelsea squad.
He might not be the type of player you will expect to get on the score sheet of give assists in every match played but his contributions to the Chelsea team can not go unnoticed. With his pressing and aggression, Mason Mount is one of the few players in the Chelsea team that make the team less pressured by opponents.
Chelsea faithfuls are now very well impressed with one of their own prodigy, who alongside Recce James seem to have established themselves as a regular in the club's first team.
The 21 year old is also becoming a regular with the Three Lions of England as boss Gareth Southgate seems to be a fan of the gifted midfielder, and has entrusted him several roles in his rotation of the talented generation of English players.
