However, this fame is unevenly distributed as some competitions, continents and countries happened to be more popular probably due to their commitment, investment and enthusiasm in the sport. This also apply to teams.

One of the teams of high calibre in the Spanish topflight is the San Sebastian based team which was founded in September 1909. Though not many will consider them a top team has their reign was short and happened long ago.

The Sociedad de Futbol as it was formerly called, started when students and workers who were returning from Britain introduced football to San Sebastian. Real sociedad as it is known today have become one of the leading team in the top flight Spanish league where they maintained topflight participation for forty years between the years of 1967 to 2007.

The club have won the Spanish LaLiga twice, becoming the champions consecutively in the years 1981 and 1982 and also attaining the runner-up position in the year 2003. The Anoeta club were also  crowned champions of the Spanish Copa Del Rey twice in the years 1909 and 1987.

The Anoeta stadium based team's name was later changed to Donostia Club de Futbol in 1931 with the advent of the Second Spanish Republic, but changed back to Real Sociedad after the Spanish Civil War in 1939.

The elite football club's affairs is currently being paddled by Jokin Apperibay, the president, with Imanol Alguacil been the coach. The Mikel Oyarzabal captained side have enjoy a good start to the ongoing season, losing just 14 from the achievable 45 points in all competitions this season.

Real sociedad remain at the top of the league after winning more than 75% of their matches so far winning four matches at their Reale arena which has a capacity of 39,500. However, all arms are at akimbo as we anticipate the team's next fixture against Deportivo Alaves away from home on Sunday 6th December 2020.

The result of the match will be a crucial in Socieded maintaining their spot at the top, at least until Atletico Madrid play their match in hand.
