Martin Ødegaard: Will the time ever come for the Madrid Heir ?

Since signing for Real Madrid in January 2015 for a reported fee believed to be around the region of €4m, Martin Ødegaard has hardly been seen in the White and Black of Los Merengues.

The Norwegian international made just one La Liga appearance for Real when he became the club's youngest debutant at 16years and 157days old, coming on as a 58th minute substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo on the final day of the 2014-15 season.

He spent his first two and a half years in Madrid with the Castilla before moving out on loan to Dutch side Heerenveen before the start of the 2017-18 season and remained in the Holland the following season but at Vitesse Arnhem.

Ahead of the current campaign, Ødegaard returned to Real but was sent on loan to La Liga side, Real Sociedad with Los Blancos retaining the option to recall him or extent his stay.

The 21years old's impressive form for Sociedad has seen him notched seven goals and eight assists in 28 outings.

He has not been a standout performer for Sociedad alone but one of the best in the Spanish topflight this season.

However, Real Madrid are reluctant to release aged players in order to accommodate Ødegaard in the team which means the Midfielder might be staying at Sociedad for one more season.

Luka Modric, one of the players Ødegaard will directly replace in the team is currently 34 and has a year left on his current Madrid contract. With no signs of him leaving the Bernabeu this summer, it is unlikely the club recalls Ødegaard.

At Sociedad, he is playing, learning, improving and he is well appreciated, he will not want a return to Real and stay on the bench for a year but continue his development with the club from San Sebastian.

Real Madrid extended his contract so that it runs till the summer of 2023 prior to his loan move to Sociedad, hence, he will have two more years on his contract, when he returns from his two years loan at Sociedad.

There is no question mark over the talent of Ødegaard, but it remained to be seen whether he will be given the chance to shine at Real Madrid when he finally returns to the club.
